Probate application costs

You will need to pay the following costs to the Probate Service when you make the application for grant of probate.

These fees are standard across England and Wales and are not included in the cost of the Wizard.

Item Probate Service fees
Application for a grant £45
Personal application £60
Ten copy grants at £1 each
(the number of grants you obtain may differ)
£10
Professional fees Nil
Total £115

If you are using a solicitor

If you have chosen the Probate Reports package and a grant is required (for example, because the estate is taxable), you may wish to instruct a professional to deal with the application. Solicitors and certain other authorised professionals can apply for the grant on your behalf without attending a probate registry. In this case, the personal application fee (£60) does not apply, but the solicitor will charge fees of at least a few hundred pounds, perhaps significantly more. Read more about how professionals charge for probate.
