Which personal representative will receive the grant?

More than one personal representative may administer the estate, but only one will receive the grant of representation.

If the estate is being administered without the assistance of a probate solicitor or other authorised professional, the grant will be sent to the personal representative listed first on page 2 of the “Probate application” form (PA1).

All being well, The Probate Service will send the grant of representation shortly after the personal representatives’ appointment at a probate registry.

If a solicitor or other authorised professional is dealing with the estate, they will receive the grant.

A minimum of one person may administer the estate. See our guide “How many executors are required to act?”.
