The name on the death certificate

The deceased may have been known by other names, but the name on the death certificate is the starting point.

The name on the death certificate must be stated on the inheritance tax and probate application forms. It will appear on the grant of representation.

It can be found on a death certificate in box 2.

It is important to declare other names in which the deceased made a will or held assets. See our guide “Names and aliases: why are they important?”.
