How to sign the "Probate application" form (PA1)
This guide is only relevant if you are a user of The Probate Wizard and the Wizard has compiled form PA1 for you. It should not be relied on by others.
- Enter you preferred interview venue near the top of page 1. See our guide “How to choose a probate registry”.
- Enter any dates to avoid near the top of page 1.
- Ignore section E (final page).
- Read and approve the checklist on the final page.
- At number 6, complete the “other documents” box if required (see below).
- At numbers 7 and 8, choose the number of grants you require. This should roughly equate to the number of different institutions requiring sight of the grant, such as banks, building societies, the Land Registry and so on.
- At number 9, state the total fee, which will be £105 plus £1 for each copy of the grant you require.
Other documents
Other documents which may be required to be included in the application along with the PA1 form include:
- If an executor wishes to renounce, a letter signed by that executor stating his or her intention to do so;
- If the deceased did not leave a will and the deceased was the applicant’s adopted child, or the applicant is the adopted child of the deceased, a copy of the entry in the Adopted Children’s Register. This can be obtained from the General Register Office, Adoption Section, Smedley Hydro, Trafalgar Road, Birkdale, Southport, PR8 2HH.
