How to sign the “Claim to transfer unused nil rate band for excepted estates” form (IHT217).

If The Probate Wizard has compiled the IHT217 form for you, here’s how to sign it.

This guide is only relevant if you are a user of The Probate Wizard and the Wizard has compiled form IHT217 for you. It should not be relied on by others.

All acting personal representatives should sign the form on the final page, also adding the date that they signed.

An acting personal representative is any personal representative who has not renounced or had power reserved. These are the same people who signed the IHT205 form.

They do not have to sign in each other’s presence or on the same date.

No supporting documents have to be submitted with this form, though they may need to be presented at a later date, if requested. They include the grant of representation for the first death (if any), the first spouse or civil partner’s will (if any) and a deed of variation after the first death (if any).
