Dealing with cash and travellers cheques

If the deceased had cash or travellers cheques at home or in a safety deposit box, these should be relatively easy to deal with.

Cash should be paid into whichever bank account is earmarked for estate funds.

For travellers cheques, contact the issuer. They should advise on the correct procedure.

Remember to make a note of - and declare - the total value. It will be added to the value of the estate for inheritance tax purposes.
