Probate application fees

Whenever a grant of representation is required, fees must be paid.

Probate fees changed on 4 April 2011. The fees below are up-to-date at time of writing.

Which fees apply to me?

Personal representatives applying for the grant in person will pay a total of £105 (application for grant plus personal application fee) plus £1 for each copy of the grant.

If a solicitor or other authorised professional is applying for the grant on your behalf, the estate pays £45 plus £1 for each copy of the grant, in addition to professional fees.

An application for grant of representation where the value of the estate exceeds £5,000.

Where the application is made by a personal applicant (not a solicitor or other authorised professional) the personal application fee is payable.

Copies of the grant

Cost per official copy of the grant of representation.

Other probate fees

Other probate fees include:

  1. Duplicate, second or subsequent grant of representation: £20
  2. Entry or extension of a caveat: £20
  3. Application for a standing search: £6
  4. Deposit of a will: £20
  5. Inspection of a will: £20
  6. Settling documents (N/A to personal applications): £20
  7. Swearing oaths (N/A to personal applications): £6 per oath, £2 for each exhibit.

Grant of representation not required?

If the estate does not require a grant of representation, the above fees do not apply.
