Collecting funds from banks and others

Once the grant has been received, the next step is to collect funds from banks and other institutions.

Now is the time to send the grant to banks and others, along with their closure forms.

If a grant was not required, you only need to send the closure forms.

Sending the grant and forms

The same procedure applies to bank and building society accounts, National Savings & Investments, friendly and mutual society policies, pension schemes and life assurance policies.

  1. Write to the institution, stating your name and your relationship to the deceased (for example, executor). Quote the appropriate reference numbers for each account or policy.
  2. Enclose an official copy of the grant of representation, if required by that institution. Ask for it to be returned.
  3. Enclose the institution’s own closure or transfer forms, completed and signed by the personal representatives. These forms will deal with the transfer of funds, which may be by bank transfer or cheque.
